Not a Bitcoin lottery — but it could have been an insider

After ~$38M left weak-entropy Coldcards, some said it was blind luck or random address guessing. That part doesn’t hold. The funds were found by searching a small, structured space — device serial plus roughly 80,000 power-on moments — not by spinning a global 2160 lottery. Someone with inside knowledge could have helped pick who to attack first: customer lists, support logs, shipping data, or other records of who bought affected units. This tool reproduces the same broken RNG and checks real mainnet bc1 addresses on mempool.space — so you can see that random guessing still doesn’t find other people’s bitcoin.

Two different questions: “Was it random luck?” — almost certainly no. “Could an insider have pointed attackers at the right victims?” — yes, that’s plausible. The cryptographic break was predictable entropy; insider detail may have decided where to aim it.

Generate vulnerable wallets & check mempool

Each row is a real bc1 receive address produced from the vulnerable firmware RNG. If “random attack” were real, you might occasionally hit a funded wallet. You won’t.

Run it yourself. Pick how many wallets to check (10–25). Zero balance is the expected result — and that’s the point.
